WHOOTPY is the debut single by the American rapper CJ. The song was a commercial success, reaching the number 10 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 in February, 2021. Produced by Pxcoyo, the track features samples from the Bollywood song Sanam Re (sung by singer Arijit Singh).
The Title – What does it mean?
“WHOOPTY” is an expression of greeting used by the gang members of Brims AKA Hats. It’s like saying “Hello”. The song serves as an introduction to CJ. He is greeting the listeners and letting them know what he is all about. Thematically, the song talks about sex, drugs, violence and luxurious living.
Verse – What does it mean?
Heavy on the SSO shit, man
Loyalty over royalty, y’all niggas know the vibes
Pxcoyo killed this beat, bitch
I get the breesh, then it’s adiós
If I’m with your treesh, then she’s giving throat
“Breesh” is slang for money in New York. “Adios” is “goodbye” in Spanish. CJ states that once he gets his money (gets paid), he is out. This implies that money matters most to CJ.
“Treesh” is derived from the word “trash”. It is slang for a promiscuous woman who would sleep with anyone. CJ claims that if he is ever with a “treesh”, it would be for sexual purposes only. “Giving throat” refers to performing oral sex.
When I see police, then we getting low (When I see police)
That’s another piece, that’s another Zoe
CJ references gang rivalry and violence which is often glorified in rap songs. If CJ and his mates spot the police nearby, they go into hiding. He is, in a way, boasting about the illegal activities he indulges in. Those things cannot be done around the police.
According to CJ, handling the police is another matter. But he also hints at the frequency of his encounters with the law. He compares it to how frequently he changes his sexual partners (“that’s another Zoe”). “Zoe” is slang for a beautiful brunette woman.
Ice in the VV’s, now she’s down to get treeshy (Ice in the VV’s)
I got all this water on me like FIJI
CJ flaunts his diamond bling to show how rich he is. “Ice” is slang for diamond and “VV” is an abbreviation for “very very”. This emphasizes his wealth. He has so much money that he easily lures in women to sleep with him (“get treeshy”).
The diamonds he possesses are not ordinary. They are pure and expensive. He compares their purity to the brand FIJI. The bottled water brand FIJI is made from the mountains of FIJI and is famous for its purity.
Bitch, I’m posted up with Hats and the Sleezys
Smokin’ the Zaza, it goes straight to the māthā
CJ speaks about his marijuana use. He smokes “the zaza”, which refers to Kurdish Zaza marijuana. This strain of marijuana is highly potent and exotic. It is so strong that it hits the rapper straight in his “matha”, which is Hindi for forehead (or simply head).
The rapper also gives a shout out to Sosmula, a rapper who is also known as “Big Sleeze” or “Sleazy”. Sosmula addresses his friends as “Sleezys”.
Then I’m uppin’ the choppa
I’m hittin’ the cha-cha, open his lata
Then he dancin’ bachata
CJ talks about getting so high that it’s like he is on a “choppa” (Chopper or Helicopter). Or, he is letting the listeners know that he owns a chopper.
“cha-cha” is slang for vagina. CJ boasts of having sex while high on marijuana. Then he continues to party and dance the Bachata, which is a popular song and dance of the Dominican Republic.
Bridge – What does it mean?
Smokin’ the Zaza, it goes straight to the māthā
Then I’m uppin’ the choppa
I’m hittin’ the cha-cha, then I open his lata
Then he dancin’ bachata
CJ re-emphasizes his cool and happening life in the bridge. He smokes the Zaza weed, has sex with women and then parties while dancing the Bachata.
Chorus – What does it mean?
[Chorus]
Whoopty
Bitch, I’m outside, it’s a movie (Whoopty), huh
“Whoopty” is a greeting used by the street gang Brims AKA Hats. It is equivalent to saying “hello” or “Hey” in the streets.
CJ is calling out to his friends, telling them to meet him outside. The use of the term “movie” has 2 connotations here. Either, CJ’s life is very dramatic and interesting. Or, he is on the street and his interactions with his friends are open for the world to see, like a movie.
Blue cheese
I swear I’m addicted to blue cheese
“Blue cheese” refers to money, particularly a one-hundred dollar bill. The idea came to CJ after he noticed a blue strip in the middle of the new hundred dollar notes.
CJ confesses that he is addicted to money. He wants all the money he can get.
I gotta stick to this paper like loose leaf (Huh)
Bitch, I’m ’bout my chicken like it’s a two-piece
“Loose leaf” refers to paper which is not bound. Such type of paper is used as binder paper. “Paper” is also slang for money. CJ is all about the money. He will stick to “this paper”, no matter what.
You can have your bitch back, she a groupie
She just swallowed all my kids in the two-seat (Gag)
CJ is taunting his rival by saying that he can have his woman back. CJ is done with her and thinks she is a “groupie”, that is, a woman of loose character. He says the woman performed oral sex on him in the backseat of a car. “All my kids” refers to CJ’s sperms.
Swagged out
For Milly, we bringing them gats out
Milly was CJ’s friend who passed away in 2020. CJ pays tribute to him in these lines. He warns everybody not to speak ill of Milly. If they do, he will destroy them “gats out”. “gats” is slang for guns. This is another reference to gang violence.
I still got some racks stuffed in the trap house
Off the ’42, I’m blowing her back out (Blowing her back out)
“Trap house” means a drug den. CJ describes his association with drug peddling. He claims he has money hidden in the drug den. “racks” could also refer to weapons.
CJ talks about having sex with a woman in the doggy-style position. He does this while being intoxicated on “’42”, referring to Don Julio 1942 tequila.
I’m back on my bullshit, swing back with a full clip
They say I’m moving ruthless
And my shootеrs, they shootin’
I won’t take her to Ruth’s Chris (And my shootеrs, they shootin’), damn
CJ taunts and teases his rivals, saying that he does whatever he pleases. His “shooters” (friends and possible gang members) will support and protect him, so he has nothing to fear.
He also looks down on the woman he is sleeping with. He says he won’t “take her to Ruth’s Chris”. Ruth’s Chris Steak House is a food chain known for expensive steaks and meal. The woman does not mean that much to him. So, he won’t spend a lot of money on her.
Outro – What does it mean?
Swagged out
For Milly, we bringing them gats out
I still got some racks stuffed in the trap house
Off the 42, I’m blowing her back out (Blowing her back out)
I’m back on my bullshit, swing back with a full clip

Towards the end, CJ pays tribute to Milly again. He also reaffirms his ability to do whatever he wants.
